Series #89: Everything’s Trash

Series #89: Everything’s Trash

Hey There,

It’s been a minute so I talked about a television program. I think the last time was when Boy wonder and I started Vampire Diaries, We’re currently on season 5 of that by the way.

Today I want to talk about a new comedy I came across on Hulu, Called Everything’s Trash, which is about a Sex Positive Podcaster named Pheobe navigating her way through too much information and not enough. Also, she has pink braids, so she has a special spot in my heart. At the same time, her older brother, Jayden launches a political campaign.

It’s Crass, Insightful, and Funny as hell. I absolutely love it. The two episodes that have come out so far have me hooked! That’s right, I’m watching a currently airing show, jump back wild child! I don’t know what got into me either!

The main cast is black with the exception of her roommate, Michael, who is trying to be as non-problematic as possible while also attempting to get a date with her best friend, Malika. It isn’t happening but it’s super enjoyable to watch.

The first episode talks about the double standard of casual sex. Men can have all the sex they want and no one bats an eye, but when she decides that she’s also going to be unapologetic about getting her rocks off with whoever she likes, suddenly it’s an issue. When Phoebe is “caught” with the director of her brother’s rival campaign, it becomes a more significant issue than just her deciding to have sex with someone.

I am so excited to see not only more sex-friendly feminist characters in fiction but also black ones! I’ve always been a big proponent of representation but it’s kind of difficult to find black female characters on television that are sex-friendly and not just written hyper-sexually. A serious issue that props up when you think about the intersectionality of black women and sex-friendly feminism that is often slept on.

I am so excited to find out what’s next for Phoebe and the crew!

Have you started watching Everything’s Trash? What do you think is going to happen next?

Episode 3 airs tonight!

Until Next Time,

Moriartie
