Cinema #84: Kong Vs Godzilla

Hey there,

I never thought I would even be writing about this. I grew up watching old Godzilla movies with my dad and enjoying other Kailua related films. Although, I never saw the original Kong v. Godzilla, I always thought it was a silly premise. We all know that Godzilla is taller than some buildings while Kong at most is half a skyscraper at best.

However, I am super excited that they decided to reboot this film because I wouldn’t have been able to be pleasantly surprised! I think I’ve only seen 2 of the newer Godzilla films, Godzilla (2016) with Aaron Taylor Johnson and then the first of this new series with Millie Bobbi Brown. I wasn’t a big fan of it to be honest, so I’m hopping back into the series a little late.

This film starts with Kong and His watcher, in a containment center that most definitely is not up to snuff. They‘Re concerned because if Kong gets out Godzilla will come directly for him, since they’re the only 2 alpha titans left. Which explains for the audience why we even have this matchup in the first place. There can only be one head honcho.

However, when Godzilla appears unprovoked and destroys a cybernetics headquarters on the coast of Florida, suddenly Kong and the theory of Hollow Earth is their only hope. Of course the CEO of Apex Cybernetics, is willing to host an expedition to Hollow Earth for a special power source, but Kong doesn’t Trust him as far as he can throw him, and that’s like super far.

Although, the science seemed to be a touch unbelievable the film was actually super enjoyable. I was enthralled by the bravery of the human characters, especially Madison and Jim. I was also impressed by the use of sign language in the film, you don’t see it as often as you should and the fact that Kong understood was pretty cool as well. also thoroughly enjoyed the action sequences and the CGI wasn’t awful.

Boy Wonder bowed out early, but I thought the film was decently well done and I was actually interested in who won and how the film would end. I definitely recommend giving it a watch if you have the opportunity, we grabbed it on dvd from our local library.

Are you a fan of Kaiju‘s and Godzilla?

Until Next Time,

Moriartie
