November Hopefuls

November Hopefuls

Hi there,

Everything’s a bit shit so here’s a list of books that I’m hoping won’t be. I don’t know how anyone expects us to be productive in the same month a white supremacist is sworn into the highest office of the land but here we are. I hoped that people would get their shit together this year, but as always whiteness above all else eh?

Let’s get to the only thing bringing me joy right now, reading. As of writing this, I’ve completed 152 novels! 37 of them being Arcs, novels I’m reading ahead of their release date, that is just so amazing to me, that authors are trusting me with their babies. It gives me some nostalgia for being a babysitter back in high school.

I’m currently reading Perfect Girl by Tracy Banghart, a YA thriller about the dangers a girl faces when she puts societal norms and politeness above her safety. Clown in A Cornfield by Adam Cesare, I’m buddy reading this with Boy Wonder, We’re about 100 pages in, A small town has the new and old generations battling for dominance when a killer clown enters the mix. I’m still working on Graveyard Shift by M.L. Rio, which I chose as the book for the Bluestocking Bunnies Book Club, and honestly, for a novella, it’s pretty slow. I’m 40 pages in and nothing has happened yet, it also doesn’t have the flavor and voice her debut, If We Were Villains, had, which drew me to this in the first place, hopefully, it picks up soon.

Here’s what I’m hoping to get into this month:

Perfect Girl By Tracy Banghart, Arc coming on the 19th of November. I’m currently 80% into this and I am loving it. We have a goody two shoes, that finds herself, in a situation that will redefine her entire being.

Darkly by Marisha Pessl, Arc coming on the 26th of November. Just started this! Very excited about it! A girl “with nothing special” about her, wins a cutthroat competition that has to do with an eccentric tabletop game maker who was ahead of her time.

A Perilous Premiere by Gail Meath, Arc coming the 15th of November. An unlikely pair are in the right place at the wrong time, and realize that a killer is not only after them but is framing them, can they solve these crimes in time?

The Blonde Dies 1st by Joelle Wellington, A buddy read with ItzBrianna. I originally received this as an arc a while back but never got around to finishing it so I kind of have a head start. All I know about it is it’s in the same vein as There’s No Way I’d Die Tonight, You’re not supposed to die tonight, The White Guy dies 1st and that it has something to do with gentrification.

Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver, a Alicia Kindle reads bookclub pick. I’m currently reading this now and even though its about two serial killers that hunt other serial killers they fall in love and the story evolves from there. I’m about 45% in and I’m thoroughly enjoying this.

Red Harvest, by Dashiel Hammet, (audio) A classic and on my 24 for 24, I’m trying hard to make sure I at least get a 3rd of them done. I’m very behind. I’m currently 30% in and the old school slang is absolutely sending me.

1st To Die by James Patterson, also on my 24 for 24. I have had this book for at least a decade and I’m tired of it being on my shelf. I’m ready to either read it and enjoy it or get the entire series up on Pango and make room for something else.

Zeta’s Til We Die, by Daniel and Ashley Brown (audio) I’m also currently working on this. A group of sorority girls have moved on from the horrific death of one of their own, and have become adults when there suddenly seems to be more to the story. They throw a reunion party and we have more bodies.

Claire Dewitt and the City of the Dead by Sara Gran. Also on my 24 for 24! When her mentor is murdered and the DA working her case goes missing she returns to New Orleans to solve the case.

Siren Queen by Nghi Vo, also on my 24 for 24. I don’t know too much about this one, but the tag line drew me in immediately. “Immortality is just a casting call away. “ So I’m thinking old hollywood with a touch of the fantastical, and who couldn’t use some of that at this moment? If I’m successful there will only be 16 books left on the list. I know that seems like a lot but theres still December! So far I dont have any arcs for that month so I could just see how many of the 24 for 24 I can get through before the end of the year.

What do you plan on reading this month?

Until Next Time,

Gabs
