Cinema #83: The Lost City Review
Hey There!
I’m not a big fan of romance novels but there have been a few throughout time that have captured my heart. The Lost City is a love letter to those novels wrapped in a romantic comedy film. The Lost City stars Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum as our 2 main characters. Sandra plays Loretta Sage, a Prolific writer of romantic novels that have a history tilt, who loses her husband and thus her love of adventure, and Channing as her Book Cover Model Dash, also known as Allen.

Our Adventure starts on a whirlwind as Loretta is kidnapped by two men, and taken directly to Daniel Radcliffe, as our villain, Abigail Fairfax, as he would love her help to discover a long lost treasure, that her books touch upon between his words “ Coital Revery”, but when Loretta tells him no, he decides to not take no for an answer and kidnaps her to the island to begin their search for the “Crown Of Fire”, Allen who witnesses her being taken against her will, enlists the help of a trainer from a meditation course he took over the summer on a rescue mission.

The rest they say is history. I absolutely loved this film. It highlighted all of the greatest parts of romantic novels. It was a fun feel good film that highlighted the levity of Romantic novels without making fun of them, or putting them down. The character development is well done as we see both of our main protagonists evolve along their journey.
My favorite character is Beth, Loretta’s Publisher, who makes it her personal mission to get Loretta back on the wagon and safely back home. Her sheer tenacity made her a lovable character as she traveled to different countries just trying to get her friend back safely.

The comedy was top tier, and I can’t remember the last time I saw a film that had me laughing that hard. Everything about it was perfect. I would give this film 4.5 💫, there were a few parts that I thought was a bit too cheesy and out of place. It didn’t detract from the film enough for me to make a big deal about it. Also Daniel Radcliffe as the bad guy is amazing, he should only do that from now on.
