Series #83: Kung Fu S1 E1 Thoughts
Hey Gang!
So I’m currently re-watching Riverdale with my mother and while I was going through the CW app, I discovered a trailer for Kung-Fu. Apparently, Kung fu is a television show/movie from the 80’s that everyone knows about but me, I’ve literally never heard of this before.
The trailer I saw was pretty great and now I’m making my way through the first episode and the first half really had me going! The all female monastery was pretty cool, and I was so excited to see all of the fighting choreography, of course the sereness of an all female Kung fu monetary lasted all of 8 minutes before the chaos started.
In true CW fashion, the punches keep coming. When Nicky comes back home I was honestly expecting a lot more vitriol, but I’m glad that at least a part of her family was able to see her return for the miracle it was and was just happy for her to be home and safe, rather than to be angry about her leaving.

If my child deserted a planned trip I’d made for her, and she disappeared into a monastery in China for three years with no contact, I would want to know why, and I would be angry but I would still want to know the story.

I really like this resurgence of Chinese culture in Pop culture and the fact that it is being done creatively and respectfully. Chinese Culture is torn apart and pieced together by white writers for ages, and its about time something is being done about it. I for one personally look forward to seeing more in the future. I’m very excited to see more television and films correcting the wrongs of 70’s and 80’s quite frankly racist depictions of Chinese culture.
Definitely excited to see more Nicky and Henry! I think they might be my new favorite slow burn couple. I love how knowledgeable Henry is, I hope we get more a back story for him, because I am so interested. Plus that assisted fighting outside of the herbalist shop? Yeah I definitely need more!

Have you seen Kung Fu? Tell me about it in the comments!
Until Next Time,
Moriartie
