Handheld Mistress #92: What kind of Pokémon would a detective have?

Hey Gang!

Here at Moriartie’s Universe we ask the tough questions and think about the unique twists of life ya know? I love mysteries but there are only so many hauls, and reviews you can see before you get tired, I gotta switch it up! So the other day, I was watching Detective Pikachu, because DUH, and I was like hmmm, in this film everyone seems to have 1 Pokémon companion.

Now let’s take that concept into the actual Pokémon world, shall we? A trainer in the Pokémon world can carry up to 6 Pokémon in a team. I thought it would be super interesting to look through the now list of 898 Pokémon, not counting Region variants.

When I’m reading or watching murder mysteries or any kind of mystery in general, I always try to see what I would do if I was in the detective’s shoes. So I’ve created a list of 6 Pokémon I would carry around with me if I was a Detective in the Land of Pokémon.

One thing that I commonly find fault with when reading mysteries is that the detective is RARELY armed. Doesn’t have to be a gun, but usually, they are thrust into a situation where they need a weapon and seldom is one available. So for this scenario, I would choose a Machoke.

With their superpower strength and power, I wouldn’t worry about anything! Henchmen, guns, I’d be protected enough to go through plenty of dangerous situations in the pursuit of justice.

Another thing I was thinking about was stakeouts. Always stuck somewhere having to keep an eye on a person or a location and always eating terrible takeout and barely lukewarm coffee. For this scenario, I would want a fire Pokémon, and I choose Fennekin, a small firefox, perfect for a small sedan companion, and easily able to use a small ember to get your food heated up or your coffee fresh again, without setting your vehicle on fire.

A good portion of my mysteries includes some kind of tech. Either hacking, research, or something akin, and they always have a tech-savvy friend or colleague to take care of that, but I would want to be able to take care of it myself. So for this scenario, I would choose Rotom!

He’s a Pokémon AND the brand new Pokédex and has the ability to go anywhere through electrical lines, I think he would be a great asset to help with all the tech things! Plus, it can talk to you, so it would also be a great mascot!

To round out the rest of the team I would want a Dratini because a dragon is helpful in any situation mystery related or not. Houndoom, because I feel like every detective needs a bloodhound right? I think Houndoom is a good fit for the job.

Personally, I’m quite partial to ghost Pokémon, Marshadow being my favorite. I would definitely want a ghost Pokémon on my team for a number of reasons but one of them being that they would be great for creating a smokescreen, allowing for me to either get away or subdue anyone stopping me from trying to solve my case. I think my final Pokemon choice would be Marshadow. I thought I would want to make it different but Marshadow is just a perfect choice. Able to create illusions AND fight, he would more than likely be my main companion.

What pokemon would you keep on your team to help you solve mysteries? Is this something other people think about? Let me know in the comments below!

Until Next Time,
