Handheld Mistress #89: Thoughts on Metal Slug Tactics

Hey Gang!

Hope you’re all doing well! I am currently over the moon about the brand new trailer released for Metal Slug Tactics. If you’re new to Metal Slug it was a side-scrolling run and gun game developed by Nazca Corp. Before being published by SNK for NeoGeo Systems. Originally released in 1996, it has become one of my favorite shooters!

I can remember running emulators with my dad at a young age, laughing in glee when we got past a difficult level or when one of us would get caught by the mummies and in turn experienced slower movement and heavier weakness to attacks. The latest game in the Franchise, Metal Slug XX was released in 2009, the year I graduated High School! I didn’t get to experience that, but I’m currently on the lookout for it.

Metal Slug Tactics is a complete overhaul of the series, which turns it into a tactical-style game. I generally have no patience for Turn-based Tactical, but what I’m hoping for is something closer to Project X Zone, where even though it’s tactical, and not necessarily moving, there’s still a lot of free melee battle to it.

My go-to character to play was always Eri, and it looks like it will stay that way in this one as well. I really like the redesign of the characters, and I look forward to figuring out exactly how to place everyone to be successful. I’m also super stoked about the sync feature that is briefly mentioned, if that provides the ability for you to play with other people that would be awesome. The Trailer does not reveal a release date, so I’ll be keeping an eye on it!

I currently have Metal Slug X on my switch and this wonderful news and trailer just renewed my interest in it! I’m really hoping that they bring Tactics to the switch, the Wikipedia article, only lists ios/android and PC. I am not a PC gamer, I keep trying and I just don’t have the patience or money to create a rig good enough to play the game and stream it at the same time. I’m not a patient gal, and Lag is the fastest way to make me drop a game.

Are you excited for the game?!

Tell me about it below!~

Until Next Time,

Moriartie
