Series #79: Grownish S1 + S2 Thoughts
Hey Gang!
I know its a different kind of television show that I normally talk about here but I wanted to get back to my roots, the golden days where I would wax poetically about Pretty Little Liars, now granted Grownish is definitely not that, but its got enough decent drama to keep me interested.
I’m currently making my way through Season 3 and thought I would give some thoughts on the last two seasons. Upfront I’m going to let you know that my favorite characters are the twins, Sky and Jazz, Luca, Aaron and Jillian.

I’d really like them to expand on Jillian more. I think she could be a great friend to Zoey and open her mind a little. I watched a decent amount of Blackish, but I swear I don’t remember Zoey being so self centered and judge mental, I’m not sure if its because its supposed to be about her growth, but she just annoyed the mess out of me.
I’m glad that every season she seems to be getting a bit better, but as a college sophomore, she should have been well ready to be open minded, versus being so closed off. My biggest thing about her is she’s self centered and judge mental, you have to pick a struggle, you can’t have both. you can’t think the entire planet evolves around you and then be upset at someone’s choices.

My favorite arcs so far, have been her choosing between Cash, Luca and Aaron, Doug and Jazz getting together, Sky and her militant views on interracial dating, and I really wish that had gone into more detail on the Ecstatic Consent policy, because that’s really important.
My favorite thing about the writing of the show is that they are willing to talk about the tough topics and aren’t shying away from it, although I do think sometimes that they are serious when they shouldn’t be and joking when they should be the opposite but I suppose it is Just a teen drama/comedy every series needs some levity.

Although, I know she’s supposed to be a stylist and into fashion, I literally have not wanted a SINGLE look Zoey has worn! Maybe I’m old fashion in my fashion, but some of those looks have just not been for me. I do however reward the costume designer for creating unique looks for 9 main characters that never feel flat or off from their personality. That’s a job well done in my book.

Have you seen Grownish? What do you think of the show?
Until Next Time,
