Series #76: Hisone and Masotan

Hey gang! Hope you’re having a great week! I finally started Dragon Pilot: Hisone and Masotan, which I feel like has been in my Netflix list for a long time! I’m not sure why I’m always late to everything but that’s something to explore another day.

Dragon Pilot is exactly its title. There is an elite department inside the Air Force of Japan, who fly specialized dragons, called otf’s who are disguised under outer plane parts in order to fly unnoticed. The premise is that there’s been a dragon who is originally unnamed who hasn’t flown in forever, and lives in an abandoned hangar when, a new cadet gets chosen to see if she can pilot him.

I put the anime in my list based on the incredibly adorable design of Masotan (the dragon) in the trailer, and then I never came back to it. Boy wonder and I had just got done watching the original total recall and I needed a pallet cleanser. I’m so glad that I’ve finally started it, but I do wish I had just watched it earlier! Trying to find a Masotan plushie now, when I’m so behind the curve is beyond difficult.

I only just started the series, I’m on episode 4, and I figured I’d hop on and tell you a little bit about it and what I like so far. I think it’s really interesting that all of the dragon pilots seem to be female. I wonder if that’s just because of their generally small stature and the face that in order to fly the dragons they have to be eaten.

I think it’s so weird that they have to be swallowed to pilot the dragons but that is the way it goes I suppose. If there are dragon pilots from other branches, why are there only so few dragons? You’d think that mythical creatures would last longer, perhaps even centuries. I hope it stays a feel good show, because I’ll cut someone if they start a messing with my Masotan!

Also, who thought of dragons are airplanes and was like ya know what? I’m goi g to make them the cutest dragons the world has ever seen? I’m so excited to learn more about the other pilots and the other dragons. While I was scouring the internet for a Masotan plushie, I saw that there’s only 1 season, I wonder if they’re currently in production for season two or if this is it? I might need to spread out the episodes if this is all I’m going to get!
