Series #86: Nancy Drew S2 E1-E3 Thoughts (Spoilers Ahead)

Hey Gang!

Hope you’ve been well! I’ve been trying to keep pretty busy lately, making sure I have content for the youtube channels is turning out to be the most difficult part of this rebrand. I want the channels to have interesting videos every week, so you all have something to check out, and it’s not really left time for the blog, but since I put away 10 books in the month of November, I thought I would reward myself with hopping back into Nancy Drew on CW.

Only to find out that I completely missed season 2, and they were 5 episodes into season 3, and while it is awesome that CW allows you to watch almost all of their content without log in, and for free on their website, they only have a few episodes at a time, so if you’re like me and have missed the stop, you’ve got some research to do.

Thankfully, I found out that they have Nancy Drew Seasons 1 and 2 on HBO Max, and away I went. I made it through Three full episodes before Boy Wonder kicked me out because he was ready for bed, and I never am, so I thought I’d write about it for ya, since it’s been at least a week since you’ve heard any television related rambling from me.

I honestly don’t really remember a lot from Season 1, except that they are trying to stop the Agleica and Nancy is really Lucy’s Daughter. They don’t waste anytime with recaps in this season and just head into a brand new mystery. How do they stop the Agleica without dying? First episode introduces the Bobbsy twins, which is you aren’t in the know, is also written by Nancy’s Ghost Writer, Edward Stratemeyer, and along with Nancy and The Hardy boys includes a number of mysteries written for children, that are now produced by the Stratemeyer Syndicate.

They are only around for a short while and act as a lead for Nancy and the gang to follow, as they give them a mirror that the original group used to call the Agleica, after a near death experience with a wraith in their forest, and a bus fire. I wish they delved into it a bit more, but I’m pretty excited for what they might add in the future, since they seem to have permission for Stratemeyer IP!

We realize that the rude guy asking Ned for drinks at the end of Season 1, will be a recurring ghost whose casual racism leads us to find out that he is part of the previous class of the Agleica back in 1975, which leads to an even more interesting point. One of the six is still alive, which means, they’ve discovered a way to keep the Agleica at bay longer than her original 7 days.

I think the mini mystery of the missing LP, leading them to the back story of the 1975 orphans, Buddy, and the interesting connection of Casual racism, Ned’s Mother coming to town, and connecting that The Black Talk doesn’t just exist in reality, but can be incorporated into fiction, was done pretty well honestly. I was very excited to learn more about Ned and his backstory, because they haven’t really gone back to that, once they discovered that Ned was innocent.

I really like Ace and Nancy together, and I’m shipping them hard! I love how nonplussed Ace always looks even though he always has a plan, and he’s one of the smartest ones in the crew. I really love seeing Ace do sign language with his father, and I really hope they get to have more conversations together, I think the dinner was a nice touch, giving us more back story into Ace as well, without it being too deep, or flashbacky, it was welded into the present storyline.

I definitely thought Tamura was lying his ass off, but his Hebrew was flawless. I was really glad that Ace’s dad was on his side because they definitely need that extra time to get a better idea of what they’re dealing with. Also, I am in love with the hidden layer of the record, learning more about the Agleica and that the Marvin fortune was really Omar’s, and what happened to her was pretty powerful, I hope they do some old-time flashbacks so we can learn more about her before she became a vengeful spirit.

I’m so glad that Crane wasn’t a terrible person. I’m honestly really upset about the situation he’s in, he used the Agleica for the right reasons, and they never even would have been in that dilemna if not for Mac, and for him to deal with those demons for 44 years must have been awful. I was so concerned for Hannah! I’m so glad that Nancy was able to convince him not to commit murder. I was really hoping that giving the bones back would have worked, but alas, they still have three days to try to figure out to survive. Thankfully I was late to this season, so I know that Nancy Survives because there’s a season 3. So hopefully everyone else joins her.

What do you think of CW’s Nancy Drew So far? Are you turned off with the ghost aspect? or Intrigued?

Until Next Time,
