Cinema #80: Halloween Kills
Hey Gang!
I just got back from a double feature at my local drive in! You guys know I love movies but there really is something special about seeing them in theaters, whether that be the cab of your own vehicle or your local multiplex. Our local Drive in, does double and triple features during October of horror films and its just the neatest thing ever!
Today, they showed Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills its sequel. I was very very pleased with Halloween! It was the perfect next chapter, it had a lot of call backs to its predecessor, and still introduced us to new things about Michael and a bit more insight on Laurie Strode and her family.

I was hoping that Halloween Kills would be a continuation of the deep dive we had begun to receive in the earlier film, and that they would begin training of Laurie’s granddaughter, Allison. Especially, with the unique ending of Allison, keeping the bloody knife all while they had escaped in the back of the pick up truck.
However, What I got, didn’t really live up to the hype. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but I really think this film was a victim of just too many cooks in the kitchen, there were a lot of loose ends that didn’t make any sense. Characters that should have had more emotional attachment, but just didn’t, characters that we loved that didn’t really thrive like they should have.

My biggest gripe was that the film went the way of the philosophical, but didn’t have enough evidence to back up the theory that they were presenting, and honestly, it was just way too late. Even if you don’t count all of the films as part of the cannon, this is still the 4th film that we’ve seen Michael at his most evil, there isn’t any redemption for him, and trying to give him the benefit of the doubt at this point, just honestly didn’t make sense to me.
Halloween, is my favorite horror film franchise, but Halloween Kills really really let me down. Thankfully, there is a film slotted for 2022 release, Halloween Ends, so perhaps it will repair the damage and mistakes that Kills Makes and hopefully will have a more cohesive story, and give a great franchise, a proper ending.

Have you seen Halloween Kills? What did you think? Are you a Halloween Fan?
Until next time,
Moriartie.
